About Michelle
Michelle is seeking re-election after serving her first term on the Royal Oak Schools’ Board of Education. Her experience as a teacher and of being a parent of a child in the district lends useful perspectives to the makeup of the board and helps inform her decision making.
As a lifelong learner, Michelle has taken classes through the Michigan Association of School Boards on topics pertaining to board service such as school finance, law and policy. She thinks it is important to continuously expand her knowledge and to use what she has learned to benefit our schools.
Michelle believes in a collaborative approach and has enjoyed working with the staff and community on developing the district’s long range strategic plan and the upcoming bond proposal. She also brings this spirit of collaboration to her role on the Royal Oak Public Library board, strengthening the relationship between the library and our schools.
Michelle knows that it is important that schools be responsive to community needs and adapt to a changing world while celebrating and preserving what is best in our schools. To that end, she has initiated board workshops on the topics of transportation options and the use of technology and AI in our schools. She has also served on the committees for Oakland Elementary’s 100th anniversary and currently serves on the committee that will commemorate 100 years for Royal Oak Middle School.
